Hazlewood Joins Southeast Community Capital

Southeast Community Capital (SCC) announced today that Monique Hazlewood has joined the non-profit financial institution.

JACKSON, Tenn. - Southeast Community Capital (SCC) announced today that Monique Hazlewood has joined the non-profit financial institution as Assistant Fund Manager for the Tennessee Rural Opportunity Fund. 

As SCC's representative in Jackson and West Tennessee, Hazlewood will focus on small business lending and partnership development. She will also be responsible for promoting and deploying the Tennessee Rural Opportunity Fund (TN-ROF), a $10 million public-private partnership between the State of Tennessee, the Tennessee Bankers Association, and SCC. The fund provides access to capital and technical assistance to rural-area small business.

"Monique brings a depth of experience in community development finance and small business lending to our organization, which allows us to significantly grow our presence in the West Tennessee market through the Tennessee Rural Opportunity Fund," said SCC president Clint Gwin.

Prior joining SCC, Hazlewood served as the RPO Coordinator at the Southwest Tennessee Development District in Jackson. There she served as a liaison between local governments, transportation representatives and the Tennessee Department of Transportation. 

Before that, she had served as Economic Development Coordinator where she managed a commercial loan portfolio for small businesses, which created over 600 jobs in Southwest Tennessee. 

Additionally, Hazlewood captured $3 million in grant funds for economic and community development projects in the Southwest Tennessee region through the Community Development Block Grant Program, Tennessee Fast Track Infrastructure Development program, and various other grant programs.

Southeast Community Capital is certified by the US Treasury Department as a Community Development Financial Institution.  Since it began operations in 1999, SCC has originated more than $20 million in growth capital loans to 215 companies throughout the State.  Those companies have created more than 786 new jobs with average wages of $15.20 per hour.
