Barbara Harris joined Southeast Community Capital in December 2007 as Chief Financial Officer, bringing many years of experience in the accounting field. She is responsible for the financial oversight of SCC. This includes budget preparation, financial planning, and cost management of the organization.
Before coming to SCC she held the same position at Clarksville Gas and Water. Her achievements there include saving the company over 8 million dollars by restructuring bond issues and negotiating over 40 million dollars in state loans at greatly reduced interest rates. In addition, Barbara was the controller for the Clarksville-Montgomery Economic Development Council. Through her work as an accounting instructor at Middle Tennessee State University, she assisted the Internal Revenue Service in the coordination of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. This program allows accounting students to gain experience preparing income tax returns.
Community involvement is very important to Barbara. She is a member of the Hilldale Kiwanis. Upon her graduation of Leadership Clarksville in 2005, she served on their Board of Directors. Barbara graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting with honors. She also completed the Masters of Business Administration program with a concentration in accounting at MTSU. She is a licensed certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Management Accountants.
