Steve joined SCC in July 2007 as the Fund Manager for the Knoxville/Oak Ridge area. Steve is in charge of the Knox County Technology and Jobs Fund. He is responsible for interviewing loan applicants, reviewing submitted applications, preparing and presenting credit analysis, conducting due diligence, and performing site reviews. He also provides technical assistance to potential, existing, and new small business clients. In addition, he maintains relationships with local financial institutions and other partners of Southeast Community Capital.
Prior to his role at Southeast Community Capital he was Executive Director of the Housing Development Corporation of the Clinch Valley (HDC). Steve lead the organization through a transition period, including involving the organization with a nation-wide pilot program that provided mortgages to clients in rural areas underserved by traditional, secondary mortgage-market lending. HDC was the first nonprofit within Tennessee to become a Originating Agent with the state's housing finance agency (THDA), as well as the first "e-commerce" lender in the state with other secondary market lenders. Based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, HDC also provides homebuyers education, housing counseling, and special needs rental housing. Prior to serving as Executive Director for HDC, Steve was the founding Executive Director of the Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation in Johnson City, Tennessee, an 8-county regional affordable housing organization. He has worked in community development and affordable housing since 1989, mostly within rural Central Appalachia. Steve was active in local, state and nationwide housing advocacy and was an original member of the board for the Community Housing Developers Association of Tennessee (CHDAT).
Steve received a B.S. in Business Management from Purdue University, and a Masters of City Management degree from East Tennessee State University.
